Family Reunion
If your close family members live in Germany, you may have the right to join them.
Whether you're reuniting with a spouse, child or parent, specific residence options are available depending on your family’s legal status.
Together Where You Belong
Living apart from the people you love is tough. If you're in Germany and your family isn't, you're probably wondering how to bring them here legally and as quickly as possible. The good news? Germany offers several ways to reunite families.
-
If your spouse is German: you have a strong legal right to join them, though you'll likely need to show basic German language skills (A1 level).
-
If your partner is from another EU country or is a non-EU citizen living in Germany: family reunion is still very possible - the process might just work a bit differently.
-
For children under 18: things are usually more straight forward, but you'll need to prove custody rights or get consent from the other parent. Sometimes, parents can even join their minor children who are already in Germany.
What you need to know
Processing times can vary a lot depending on where you're applying from. That's why getting all your documents ready early (and getting them right) is so important. Think marriage certificates, birth certificates and other official papers that often need special authentication.
Where I come in
This process is emotional and stressful enough without having to worry about paperwork mistakes or delays.
I make sure your application is complete and strong, so your family can be together as soon as possible.
